An adult entertainer explains why she chose to get into the business and what her relationships with her co-stars were actually like
AN ex-porn star has spoken about what being in the adult industry is really like and reveals that the only X-rated films she enjoys watching are her own.
The woman, who goes by the pseudonym S.K., has now retired as an adult entertainer but in an interview with Cosmopolitan.com editors Elisa Benson and Ali Drucker she lifted the lid on her previous career.
S.K. joined the hosts for frank discussion about women in the industry during the latest episode of the Cosmo Happy Hour podcast.
“It wasn’t like I was desperate for money, so there was no need for me to do anything I didn’t feel like doing,” S.K. explained of her time in the porn business.
“I was really there to have a good time. [Porn] was more of a passion project for me, so I really only did as much of it as I thought would be fun.’
Before S.K. got into porn she was working as a webcam girl while at her New England arts college but she admits she ‘always had a little sex vixen waiting to be unleashed’.
“You could truly choose your own adventure, and I had a lot of props and costumes,” she says of her time working with webcams.
After developing a fan base S.K started exploring other options of doing porn on the East Coast before she headed to Los Angeles, where she started doing improv comedy.
It was then, that S.K. says she became interested in the adult film industry again and after Googling top porn agencies in Los Angeles, she sent in some nude photos of herself.
Soon, a former porn star called Shy Love, who founded Adult Talent Managers, contracted S.K..
During their first meeting, she says Shy Love told her to get naked and to her “You need to get a tan. I want you three shades darker,” but she was “very raw”.
“That was actually part of my appeal,” she explains. “I think that I was all natural — I even found a literal niche for myself in Amish porn. They really liked the whole natural look.”

Despite being excited to try almost anything, Shy Love advised her to should start off in ‘masturbation’ and ‘girl on girl’ and remain in those areas for as long as possible.
“It is all about novelty so that’s why they get so excited when new girls show up, but you really want to maximize your potential,” she explains.
“So you sort of make your rounds in each genre, but if you do anal first it is like, ‘Oh, she has already done that.’”
S.K. would often have to go and see production companies and they required her to get naked, but that wasn’t a problem as she genuinely wanted to do it.
“[If] you are signing up to do porn, you have to expect that you are getting naked and people are going to be looking at you in a sexual way,” she says.
“I think as long as you know what you are signing up for… but I don’t know if everyone sort of has the luxury I had, where it’s not like my rent was due.
“I got a labiaplasty so I wanted to show that off,” she adds.
And when you begin to film S.K. says you’ve got to accept that you’ll be getting “extremely intimate” with your co-stars so you “really start hitting it off right away”.
The male performers will start “courting you immediately” but after swapping numbers with so co-stars she has regretted it.
“It was always like a fun atmosphere,” she recalls.
“Most people just really loved having sex, so they were usually happy to be there I think. They seemed like it.”
And in the same way Hollywood cameramen know the best angles to shoot during films, S.K. says it’s the same in porn but instead most popular angle is ‘p****’.
“That is really what it is focusing on [in hardcore porn],” she explains “But the softcore can’t show the actual penetration, so you have to somehow hide it.”
When it came to telling her parents about her job in the adult film industry, S.K. was amazed at their level-headedness and their understanding.
But after working in porn from the ages of 23 to 25, S.K. says it was time to pursue something else because it wasn’t “true life calling”.
“Personally, I don’t watch very much porn,” she explains and “before trying it myself, I hadn’t really watched much either.”
But occasionally she does watch her own work, “Maybe it is a little sick and twisted, but I’ve had guys who want to watch my work while also being with me in the flesh.”
